JanardhanaSwami Temple
The Janardhanaswami Temple, also known as the Varkala Temple, is a Hindu temple situated in Varkala. The temple is dedicated to the worship of deity Vishnu in the form of Janardhanaswami, locally known as Varkaleswara (the lord of Varkala). It is a renowned temple within its locale, and is thousands of years old.
Sivagiri
Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala is a spiritual order of saints and sanyasins founded in 1928 by Sree Narayana Gurudev, the greatest Saint and social Reformer of 19th centuary India has ever seen, Gurudev, is worshipped by millions in India and abroad as a prophet of peace, justice, light and hope for the downtrodden through his life, teachings and principles.
The Mutt’s mission is to disseminate and propagate the teachings and principles of Sree Narayana Guru such as “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Man” and to do service to humanity as conceived by the Guru and perpetuate the monastic order of the members to achieve the objects of the Sanghom.
Jatayu Earth Center
Jatayu Earth Center is a National Park and tourism centre . It stands at an altitude of 350m (1200ft) above the mean sea level. To get to the top, there’s a cable car and it’s the only cable car in Kerala. The honor of being the largest bird sculpture in the world belongs to Jatayu. The sculpture measures 200 feet (61 m) long, 150 feet (46 m) wide, 70 feet (21 m) in height and occupies 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2) of floor area).
Padmanabhaswami Temple
The Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Vishnu . It is one of the 108 Divya Desams considered the sacred abodes of Vishnu in the Sri Vaishnava tradition. Adi shankara had created sacred hymns on Anantha Padmanabha and it is an important holy site for Smartha Tradition. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the Kerala style and the Dravidian style of architecture, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century gopuram.
The principal deity is Padmanabhaswami a form of Vishnu enshrined in the “Anantashayana” posture, engaged in eternal Yogic sleep on his serpent mount named Shesha.
Chenkal Maheswara Sri Sivaparvathi Temple
The Chenkal Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple is home to the world’s tallest Shiva Lingam, standing at an impressive height of 111.2 feet. This remarkable achievement has secured its place in the India Book of Records.
Azhimala Shiva Temple
Located on the coast of the Arabian sea near Vizhinjam. Dedicated to Shiva, the temple is known for the 18 m (58 ft) tall Gangadhareswara sculpture, which is the tallest Shiva sculpture in Kerala. Inside the temple, there is an 18 m (58 ft) tall concrete sculpture of Shiva in Gangadhareswara figure. The sculpture depicts a four armed Shiva in a seated posture. The back right hand holds a damaru, the front right hand rests in the right thigh, the back left hand holds a trishula and the front left hand is in a raised position within the jaṭā (dreadlocks), which holds Ganga. The sculpture is mounted on a rock at a height of 6.1 m (20 ft).
Varkala Cliff
Varkala cliff is a famous beachfront which is a massive cluster of old times rock formations. Varkala Cliff is now challenging the upbeat hippy destinations of India like Goa and Gokarna with its surging popularity. It features some colossal rock formations, hillsides, balmy beaches, hidden ruins and forts along with cloistered lighthouses and placid lakes. The unique feature of the Varkala cliff is that it appears as a dramatic horizon that is merging with the Arabian Sea. Varkala cliff is declared as a geo-heritage site in India due to the unique sediments that laid adjacent to the Arabian Sea. It is of a kind formation on the rather flat coastal plains of Kerala which magnetizes backpackers and pilgrims from around the world.
